St. Teresa of Avila: Devotions, Prayers and Living Wisdom

Product Description
Every spiritual tradition has its share of renowned figures--the great saints, mystics, and visionaries who inform our own search for divine connection. Now, Sounds True presents a new series that brings to life some of history's most beloved spiritual beacons. Each book is a small "gem of devotion," dedicated to capturing the essential wisdom these innovators gave to us. Combining the writings and poetry of the masters and their devotees with beautiful artwork and historical context, these gift-sized books are perfect for anyone who wants to deepen their connection to these pioneers of human enlightenment. In Saint Teresa of Avila, the first book in the series, readers touch the supreme passion of one of Christianity's most inspiring saints. A tireless reformer and the mentor of Saint John of the Cross, Teresa is most famous for her revelation of ecstatic love for God and the empowerment it offers. Despite illness, hardship, and persecution by the Inquisition, the unshakable faith of this courageous mystic lit the way to an "interior castle," a place of unimaginable beauty where no darkness can touch us. Edited and compiled with meditative reflections by celebrated translator and author Mirabai Starr, Saint Teresa of Avila gives readers a direct link to the living presence of this brave and gentle woman, to draw upon her strength in our own times of need, and to experience the transformational power of embodied love for the divine.

This is a coffee table book. I bought it because I have been reading Mirabai Starr’s translation of Teresa’s Life and the Interior Castle. I hoped it would give me some devotional/prayer ideas for a weekend reflection I’m giving on Teresa of Avila. One thing about the quotations used is that they do not credit the exact location (page or paragraph) of the quote. I would prefer to be able to find the quotes more easily in the larger context. Overall, I love Mirabai Starr’s translations!

Saint Teresa of Avila (Devotions, Prayers & Living Wisdom) by Mirabai Starr

Mirabai Starr, herself a Divine Goddess, truly speaks as a sister of a beloved sister when she writes about and translates the words of Saint Teresa of Avila.

I adore this book (and its Series companions) for its compression, its friendly accessibility, and its format (it fits in my pocket, which is important for someone like me he wants to take Teresa/Mirabai everywhere he goes). With grace and seeming effortlessness, Starr lifts Teresa from the dust of history and brings her vibrantly and seductively to life. Her Teresa is so vivid! Triggered by this book, I’ve had visions of Teresa walking with me in my house, sitting down with me in the kitchen and offering inspiring counsel.

I bow down to this beautiful saint and her sister translator and fellow guide!

There is something beyond the words in the book that reaches into your soul. Through her story of humble and strong character, may you see a relection of your own soul yearning to be closer to the divine spark.
